The Man in Stitches

I ran out of fleshy pink thread so here is Johnny Cash so far.  The blue ink washes out with plain water.  (Haven't sewn that guitar strap yet... it's the procrastinator in me that said I needed to start this.)

Guitar Strap Update

My Clapton drawing needed work.  Boy, was he a challenge. I revised it and gave him long hair and am very happy how it turned out.  Each face is about 3 X 4 inches -just big enough to get the right amount of detail while still being simplistic.

Embroidering is all done and now all that's left is sewing it into a strap.  Sewing is not my forte so wish me luck!

I started work on my genie piece and included it at the bottom.  It's a rough idea but it let's you know what I have in mind.

Momentarily Distracted

I WAS going to start work on that Arabian genie/magic lamp piece but I became inspired with a new project that I started drawing up a few days ago.   I drew up a bunch of guys and gals for my guitar strap.  But which artists should accessorize it?  WAY too many to choose from but I picked these.  I might add Johnny Cash and  probably Chuck Berry (since I already have that pattern made up).

I must say, I love drawing black people.  It's much easier to find their features to accentuate.  Eric Clapton, on the other hand, was so difficult.  I still need to refine and simplify his drawing as well as Janis's so that it's easier to embroider.  Thankfully I'll be putting their names by each one so people will at least be able to go "Oh yeah, that does kinda look a bit like so-and-so." And not "Who in the hell is that supposed to be?"

(Grand)Mother Lode of Sweetness.

I found a secret stash of McCall's/Simplicity transfers, toy patterns and apron patterns all from the late 40's to early 60's for 29cents each.    Who knows when I'll ever get around to SEWING.  I love the stick figure applique pattern.

Bread and Butter

Another Valentine for You

Teacup Valentine

I finished one of my Valentine themed pieces yesterday.  I tried a few new stitches on this one: Portuguese Stem Stitch for the heart; and threaded back stitch for the yellow details of the cup.

I picked up a few McCall's goodies yesterday, as well.  Pink rose transfers and something I've never seen before, appliques and they're GERANIUMS.  Sweet!  I'm not sure where I'm going to iron these on but they look so nice unused. ;)

Hooters and Teabagging

I did manage to get a few things done the week I was sick.  I drew some adorable Valentines (and one not-so-tasteful Valentine but come on, I HAVE to balance out all this cuteness with a little bit of raunchy thinking once in awhile).  I'm going to embroider those here shortly.  And I embroidered some hooters on an apron I picked up at the thrift store a few weeks back.

I also thought I'd share a few vintage sewing notions and such that I've picked up while thrift shopping.  Now that my kitchen is done being renovated and decorated I thought I'd move onto vintage sewing paraphernalia.   I picked up a neat stitches booklet by Anchor and a promotional Sunbeam Bread needle book.  It just amazes how something like that has survived 50 years without being thrown away.

Embroidery B. Done!

Finished! This was not an easy material to embroider -it was too tight of a weave- lesson learned.  The pillow case is back lit so you can see the trail of embroidery floss if you look closely (don't).  :) Click on the photos twice for a more detailed look.

Almost done Chuck -he will be the easiest and most gratifying part compared to the rest of the project.  It should take at least a week of steady stitching.

Here's the early planning stage of a project I've been itching to do since I took up embroidery a month and a half ago.

Threadhead

I've recently become addicted to embroidery.  I never thought it could happen to me and now that I've tried it I'm hooked.

My gateway drug was collecting vintage kitchenware whilst renovating my kitchen over the past year.  It started with a set of gorgeous dish towels I purchased from a dealer for CHEAP (that's how they get you coming back for more).  Then I found a package of Aunt Martha's iron on transfers while out getting my thrift hunting fix.  I filed the package away not really knowing what I was going to do with it.

I found myself going straight to the linen section at the thrift stores, looking for more embroidered pieces for my collection.   After months of searching and feeling disappointed I decided to take matters into my own hands.  Now,  I can't put the needle down.

I finished this pillow last week using an Aunt Martha transfer.
